Amazing, to say the least! This year ERLC celebrates 10 wonderful years of God’s goodness!
ERLC first opened its doors to 22 poor and needy refugee children in 2008 and hence began a journey of hope and expectation for hundreds of precious lives. It has definitely not been smooth-sailing. Storm clouds gather but there is always the promise of clear skies. Dark nights come but there is always the promise of a beautiful dawn.
The total enrolment in January 2018 is 600 for ERLC (preschool to year 6) and another 50 for EELC (secondary). All 20 classes in ERLC are bursting at the seams and another 150 children are still on the waiting list. Visitors invariably ask us how we manage a school this size and where the funding comes from. We provide free books, breakfast, lunch, transport, all for a minimal fee. Time and again we have seen rice and cooking oil and Milo appearing just as the very last bit is being used up. When our faith is stretched, we see ourselves being blessed with favour upon favour.
People often wonder why we are passionate about educating these children. A sparkle in a little child’s eye, a nod of understanding, a spontaneous hug, a shout of joy, a helping hand… these are some of the many things that keep us going. Amid struggles in bringing about good character and academic excellence, looking into their emotional and spiritual needs, and battling discipline issues, we see many lives being transformed. And that is worth it all!
Ten wonderful years of God’s goodness! And with each milestone, things get better!
